Fellow Hokie Engineers,

Happy Reading Day! As the Fall 2022 semester comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to wish everyone good luck on their upcoming exams and share an update on what the Student Engineers’ Council (SEC) has been working on.

This past week, the SEC Executive Board approved our budget for the upcoming fiscal year (FY 2023). We are really excited about the plans we have for the year ahead! We've almost tripled our budget for National Engineers’ Week activities and doubled our capacity for the Engineers’ Ball, so there will be even more opportunities for our engineering community to come together and celebrate. Registration for E-Week is already open, and information about E-Ball tickets will be sent out at the beginning of next semester. Keep an eye out for that!

This year's events are shaping up to be bigger and better than ever. We have a variety of fun activities planned, such as a trivia night at The Maroon Door, a College of Engineering talent show at The Lyric Theatre, The Amazing Race, and a Casino Night with all your favorite games. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of our student body come together to celebrate our engineering community. Plus, we are happy to be able to continue our support of student programs with our annual philanthropy of over $300,000.

Behind the Scenes of the Virginia Tech Engineering Expo

We recently made a behind-the-scenes video about Expo that will be published in the Virginia Tech Engineer magazine next week. If you want to get a sneak peek at what goes into making the Expo a success, check it out here:

Our survey data shows that the 2022 Engineering Expo resulted in over 4,000 job interviews, 800 full-time job offers, and 1,700 internship/co-op offers for our students. Additionally, the corporate sponsorship of the event makes it possible for us to put on all our other programs and support our philanthropy. If you landed a job with a company you met at Expo, we'd love to hear your story!

I'm always here to help if you need anything. Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything I can do for you.
