Requirements to Apply

Organizations

New organizations are exempt from the member organization status and General Assembly Meeting attendance requirements for the previous semester. However, the new organization must still meet attendance requirements for the current semester.

Previously inactive organizations may be exempted at our discretion..

Attendance

The SEC typically holds General Assembly meetings (GAMs) 2-3x a semester. Attendance of at least 75% of these GAMs is required for any amount of funding. Please reference the SEC Calendar for dates when GAM is.

Other non-required event attendance, such as Professional Development, First-Year Experience, or other event(s), could potentially be used to compensate for a lower GAM attendance. The SEC will announce any of these opportunities throughout the semester.

Volunteer hours

A minimum of 3 hours of volunteering are required per year. This requirement must be met the academic year prior to that in which funding is requested. The recurring opportunities for additional hours are Engineering Expo, Freshman Major Mixer, and E-Week.

Use of previous funds

At least 75% of funds allocated from the previous year must be used by the time your organization submits an application for the next cycle.

Availablity to Accept Funding

If applying for the Lynn Nystrom Fund or the International Humanitarian Fund, you must have a Virginia Tech Foundation Account in order to receive funding. If you do not have your own VT Foundation Account please check if your Department has a foundation account they could receive funds through to distribute back to you or your organization.
