Gebreyes Service Scholarship

$2k to 2 students ($4k total)

Background

The Nathnael Gebreyes Service Scholarship was established by the SEC in 2001 to honor the ideals of service that Nathnael represented throughout his life. Nathnael was a 1985 graduate of the Industrial Engineering and Operational Research Department (now Industrial and Systems Engineering) at Virginia Tech. Prior to enrollment at Virginia Tech, he immigrated to the United States from Ethiopia, after walking to Sudan due to the political unrest within the country. He attended Stonewall Jackson High School. Nathnael was only weeks away from beginning graduate study at the University of Virginia in 1988 when he was killed by a drunk driver.
